The Aosta Valley has the highest mountains in Europe. Abundant water flows down the various valleys from the glaciers, which favours the development of a spontaneous, varied vegetation. The mountains gather an endless variety of herbs in the meadows, pastures and forests. When all this is flowering it is a sight that has inspired poets and artists.
For centuries the mountain herbs have been a valid salutary help for mankind. The claim for a more natural life has determined the revaluation of the immense natural richness of herbs, and the art of cultivating the herbs, practised in the villages, has been rediscovered. At the agricultural centre of St. Marcel the newest techniques make it possible to use this ancient knowledge.
